Collar In Crate?

Will be picking up our puppy on June 29th. Do I leave his harness/collar on him in the crate at night or could it get hung and be dangerous? Also do you leave water in the crate at night? A properly fitted collar (or even a breakaway) is not a problem in the crate, I would not leave a standard harness on him. A bottle waterer is a good idea.
